You wouldnt have the new Intel wireless N card ? as my XPS 1730 on wireless does that had latest MS vista drivers so updated with Intels driver pack - but still problem still exists and mentioned dit to DEll XPS techies other day the guy spoke to was going to raise it internally but whether he has i dont know and for me only occurs when moving/streaming 4GB + files over wireless and my mouse is top end logitech wireless and no problem when connected via wire, so at moment I'd say it's a bug in the wireless drivers, prob. shoddy coding :(
I need to run a process watching tool i got it shows faulting componets leek no other tool available and i need to run it, but i have enough of troubleshooting stuff for work, so been lazy was gonna post on Intel forums. It's so bad i actually dont use wireless now unless just surfing the net, just waitign for driver updates.
Yes, I have the new Intel 4965AGN card :-( So this could be a problem for everyone there. The sad part is that we have to wait for months before Dell or Intel do accept that in fact, there is a problem with the card :-(
Im actually glad you do have same card as this does tend to point to either dodgy firmware or driver, the only other thing i was thinking may cause it is somehow when the WNIC gets busy it creates interference but the way it locks up i've seen this in the server world afecting performance and usually get MS & HP involved etc. then suddenly a new update for either firmware or driver comes out, as mentioned i coudl never get the actual speed, so called XPs support, and the engineer goes oh yo havn't got N enabled but he soon shut up when he remoted on and saw it hence why i also mentioed the lock up issue.
Also you noticed that your CPU was not problem, same here resources fine, but modern NICs/WNICs usually have offloading and i suspect it is here that the problem exists and so probably bad code in the threading....
Have you ever managed to connect at N speeds yet? I know my router is fine as a friend comes round and his external N WNIC does but best i get is G
