Keyboard Issues

Dell laptop keyboard: Each of the buttons clicks fine, but are writing incorrect letters. For example, when I press a 'G' it writes 'GT' and when I press an 'H' it writes 'HY'. The caps lock is writing '/' rather than functioning as a caps lock. The FN key is acting as the 'Alt' key and my backspace button keeps performing random functions depending on which programme I'm in, such as bringing up a find/replace box when in Word.

E7440 Laptop, any advice or suggestions please?

thank you

Hi ZAINEYMA ,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum .

To resolve this issue I would ask you to try these steps ,

*Do you face this issue with any particular program or even with the simplest notepad .

*Have tried connecting an external keyboard to check its functionality .

*To confirm if its software or hardware issue I would suggest you to test the keyboard's functionality in safemode with networking .

Hoping to hear from you soon .

Kindest Regards ,

Hello, thank you for your reply, this issue is with any program, not related to one specific program, an external usb keyboard works fine. ok I will ask user to try to login via F8 safe mode with networking and report back shortly.

Hi  Zaineyma ,

Thank you for the reply ! If the issue is seen in safe mode as well then its a clear case of hardware failure .Keyboard replacement should fix the issue .Do reply to this post  with the service tag of the system ,system owners name ,contact no ,address sent via private message so that I can verify the same to assist you .
