Keyboard Key is Broken
I hhave a Inspriron 1555 laptop and the left shift has split. The key still works but I am guessing it is only a matter of time until it results in a more serious problem.
Is it possible to replace just the laft shift key or what is your suggestion?
Thanks for your advice.

If the system is under warranty, call Dell - they will send a new keyboard, which will take about ten minutes to install.

there's sellers on ebay that will sell you one key. if you don't like ebay, laptop-keys.com will sell you a key. there's other sellers that will sell you just one key. i don't know if dell will just sell you one key. keys cost about 2 bucks the keyboard on ebay will be around 35 to 40 bucks.

I should have mentioned that the system is more than 2 years old and not cobered by any warranty.
Can I buy just the left shift key? Will Dell cell the keyboard to me if not under warranty? Obviously I would prefer just replacing the one key.

Thanks you did a great job of telling me abount the replacement. The one site that you gave me even had a video showing how to replace individual keys. So I followed the instructions and removed the damaged shift key (which has a split in it) and glued it so it should be solid and then replaced it back in place. So hopefully I am okay for quite a while and if I ever have to replace it I know exactly what to do.
Again thanks for the help.

Hey there , I had a few broken keys on my laptop , someone suggested me to go to www.laptopkey.com
I got my new keys from them at a reasonable cost and they have great service, I'm sure they'll help you out too
