Keyboard Problem Inspiron 600m
I have a system that is 11 months old and the "\" key on the keyboard came off two days ago. I didn't do anything to make this happen, I just noticed it on Tuesday. I called Dell and they said that they would not replace the keyboard under warranty as it was considered "accidental damage". I disputed this but of course, the old scripted response from the Tech Support centre in India meant that I didn't get anywhere with them.
Since then I've got the key back on but it is very stiff, although it is working.
It wasn't accidental damage (I know what accidental damage is!!!) and I thought it should be covered under warranty as the computer wasn't even in use when the key apparently popped off.
Has anyone got any advice for me? I asked the tech support person for a call reference number and then sent an e-mail to Dell telling them I wasn't happy with the outcome of the call. I haven't received a response though...

I've since had a reply from Dell. The same person called me back and had received my e-mail lodged through the Dell website. He said they are going to replace the keyboard. In answer to Corey's question, yes I was able to get the key back on but having had quite a bit of experience repairing laptops I realised that if it was just the key popping off the frame underneath, you just pop it back on, however, if the frame comes away from the keyboard base, that's a different issue and the ability to repair it depends on the build quality of the keyboard. In this case, while the keyboards are OK, you can see where cost cutting has happened!
I'm happy that the keyboard will be replaced though. It's the only problem I've had with the computer and overall I'm extremely happy with it. So much so that when I buy another laptop in two months time, I will buy another dell. Probably the Lattitude D610 I think...
