Keycap lettering starting to fade

Hi!  I have a Inspiron #4150 laptop and have owned this laptop since March of 2003.  I noticed recently that the silkscreen lettering is starting to wear away on the N-Key and the M-Key.

Can keycaps be ordered from Dell for this keyboard.  I believe that replacement is rather simple.  It is just a matter of using a keycap puller and remove the keycap and press-install the new keycap.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kenlouie,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Dell does not sell individual key caps.  I have seen users post on this forum in the past how they bought a replacement keyboard for only one or two keys.  Perhaps if you perform a search, you can find these posts and contact the author.  If you wish to purchase an entire keyboard as a replacement, you can get pricing and availability information from Dell Software and Peripherals.

They are our Software and Peripherals department and sell components from other vendors. While Dell does not support these items outside of the first 30 days of ownership, this site can help guide you more effectively on a peripheral purchase than another retail vendor could.

  1. Choose Small Business as your business segment.
  2. Click on Dell Parts Finder.
  3. Pick your system type and model or enter your service tag for suggested products for your Dell computer.
  4. Click Search.

They also have hard drive, memory and peripheral upgrade options. If you cannot find what you are looking for by the search engine, you can contact them at:

1-800-372-3355, option 5.

As far as I know, Dell doesn't replace individual keys. If there is a problem with the key, the entire keyboard would need to be replaced. Also, someone from tech support told me before that worn off letters on the keyboard are not covered by the warranty. Kindly confirm this Mr. Moderator
