Labtop wireless adapter not connecting to networks

I have an Inspiron 1440 (mid 2009) with an intell wifi link 51 AGN. I have not been able to connect to a wireless network for a while now. I can see networks and input the password but it always says cant connect to the network. The same thing happens when I booted into ubuntu from a flash drive and when I tried to connect from a USB wireless adapter. This happens at all 3 networks i tried to connect to. (I am not imputing the wrong password.)

I have tried deleting all my preset networks. When I ran the dell diagnostics about  half the tests passed and the the other half could not be run because I need to be connected to a network. I also went to the intel website and updated the driver to the latest (14.3.2.1). It still does not work.

Anyone have a clue to what could be happening?

Is his one specific network you tried, or does it not connect to any?  If just one network, then you'll need to put your attention there.  First reconfigure the network to be totally open, no security at all.  If it still doesn't connect, then there's something wrong with how your adapters are binding to TCP/IP.  If it does, then there's an 802.1x issue.  When recreating the network, avoid using mixed mode authentication.  Lots of APs and adapters don't do well with that.

It happens at all networks including my home network I use to be able to connect to (I didn't change any network settings)  and some friends' networks.

Edit: I have been using a hard wire since I stopped being able to connect.
