Laptop and Video Capture Cards
Hi'ya folks,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspirion 8600 laptop from a friend of mine as I need it for work purposes. My question is this... Is there any way I can add a video capture card like the ATI Wonder series... I need to be able to capture video from a Sony 460 Digital Video Camera and save still images in JPEG format without losing any of the time/date stamps.
Anyone know if this is possible, if so how do I go about it (from purchasing the card, to installing or having the card installed).
Regards,
Michael

The cable I have is an i.LINK cable, whatever that means. My buddy says this is Sony's name for Firewire.... I am not the most technologically astute as it were. Anyways, it has an i.LINK connection at one end and then a USB type connector at the other end. Know any decent types of software that won't strip the time and date?
I tried using the software that comes with Sony TRV-460 but it strips the date and time, same with Windows Movie Maker.

There are 2 firewire connector types - the itty bitty one that fits into your laptop and the larger one that looks similar to USB which is the larger 6pin connector.
There isn't software that wont strip the date & time, because they aren't part of any standard but sony's.

Ok, fair enough... so that leaves the question... what capture card can I get to fit inside a laptop?
The date and time are necessary aspects for evidence.

Hi there HDY-Overkill,
I doubt that you'll find a card that will fit inside the laptop and be compatible.
But, there are plenty of external USB capture/tv tuner things, and some are very small in proportions.
You might want to check that option,

Rick
