Laptop flickers random colors on screen then blue screens... Help Please
Hey all, first time poster here,
So my laptop, particularly during gaming, however, not exclusively, will have what I believe to be a display driver malfunction in which the screen will flash random colors such as red and yellow for an amount of time, then blue screen. It has reached the point where this happens very often, multiple times an hour, and the computer is just not usable anymore. I have reinstalled windows to try and solve the issue to no avail.
Any help would be great and thanks in advance
Sebastian
Btw its an alienware m15x with a geforce 260M

Hey Satya,
Thanks for the quick response. My reformatting was done by tigerdirect, and they installed all the drivers for me. They told me that my issues were being caused by some malware that was removed by the reformatting. However, sure enough, a few days later all the issues came back.
the aulaucnher.exe doesnt seem to open anything on my computer
Im going to restart and do the LCD test and see if that helps with the launcher as well
Will post results

Hi Sebastian,
If you have re-installed windows it is important that you install the drivers in the correct order. Please check this link to check the correct order: http://dell.to/wpBzkf
If the issue persists even after the drivers are installed, please connect an external monitor to the laptop and switch the display. This will help us isolate if the issue is with the video card or the LCD itself.
Run the LCD Built In Self Test:
1. Shutdown the laptop. Press and hold the 'D' key and push the power button. Release both the hands. That will initiate the LCD test and you will see plain colored screen flashing on the LCD.
Run a custom scan on the video card using Alien AutoPsy and make a note of any error message, If you need to install Alien AutoPsy use this link: http://dell.to/QRjDDI
Please reply with the results.

Satya,
I have run both the complete alien autopsy and the custom video and video stress tests. All components passed and seemed to be working as intended according to alien autopsy.
I was unable to do the LCD video test and whenever I do the whole hold d and press the power button, then release both, the screen stays black and the keyboard also goes black. About ten seconds later the computer has shut down and upon trying again the same thing happens.
I don't know if this makes a difference, but when the screen begins flashing colors, I am usually wearing headphones and the computer begins making all sorts of noises through the headphone jack.
Please advise on what I should do next.
Thanks
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
Sorry about the delay. Now that all the tests on the video card were passed, connect an external monitor and switch the display. Use the Fn and F6 keys to extend the display. Notice if the display is fine on the external monitor when the LCD flashes these random colors.
The Alienware m15x driver installation process is different from other systems. I hope tigerdirect has followed the process correctly. Not following this order can cause the Operating System to be unstable and some devices not working properly.Check this link on how to install drivers on Alienware m15x: http://dell.to/wpBzkf
The beep codes you hear during the LCD test is common and can be ignored.
