Laptop wont charge after charger blew
My charger blew last night and now my laptop wont charge. I have tried it with another charger and its still the same i have even tried it with the battery out and the charger in the laptop and it won'teven turn on. Its a Dell inspiron 6400
If i need a new motherboard I have seen them about for under £100 but how do i find out what version i need

There are only two different boards - one has Intel integrated video while the other doesn't - it has a slot for a video card. You need the same type you now have.

If it will power up, check the BIOS screen. If it won't, check support.dell.com (use your service tag to look up the original configuration).

You have Intel integrated video. However, with a model of this age, I would question whether you really want to put the repair money into a replacement board. It will be the equivalent of at least $200 or more -- a significant percentage of what a replacement system will cost.

Saw a few motherboards on ebay for around £100 about $160 at the moment i dont mind paying that as a new one would cost me at least £400 /$600.

The laptop turns on no problems and works ok its just since the charger blew while it was plugged in to it the laptop now wont charge even with my spare charger
plus at the moment money a bit tight

If you're certain the mainboard is the only problem, perhaps - but if you're not, and it turns out the problem took out the CPU or memory, drive, etc., then you could wind up on a spiral toward the cost of a new system - without the warranty a new system carries, and without the faster speed of a new system.

If it's just the power jack, possibly - but it will still run $100-150US or equivalent.

No mate dont think its the battery as if i take it out and try turning the laptop on with just the charger it wont turn on
