Latitude C600

I can't get it to boot from CD-Rom so I can install XP. I have already set it in the BIOS to boot from CD 1st and updates bios. The problem is that the only way I can get the cd-rom drivers on there is with the floppy. But it wont install em without seeing the cd-rom installed it's a catch 22 it wont boot from cd and I need some more suggestions on how to get it to boot from cd. Right now it's just a paperweight. Remember that the C600 shares the mod bay between floppy and cd-rom. The HDD IS bootable to the c: prompt but thats it I need help on how to get the rom drivers in there so it will load the CD.

Hi,

It should be able to boot from the CD, but there is a special cable that will let you plug the floppy into the printer port. this will let you have both drives working together.

Hey Chris do me a favor when you reply to something and say there is a special cable why dont you throw a link up or be more specific about what your replying to. It's like everything I've seen you reply to all you have done is said yes it can be done. But I'll be if you ever say how it can be done. If your not gonna help then why reply other than to get your post count up. What I' trying to say is you did't tell me anything that I didn't already know and about 99.9% of the rest of the world didn't already know. So dont reply to my post if you can't say more than oh it should do this or it can do that.

What a petulant little post, feel better now?

He is already doing you a big favour by responding to your post. If you are too indolent, vacuous or incompetent (sorry, can't think whatever other reasons you might have) to make some effort for yourself you ought to at least be able appreciate why he might be disinclined to give chapter and verse in every answer (especially to basic questions which have been asked and answered before). Of course if you had stirred yourself enough to do a search you would saved yourself the need to post a question  and others the time and effort to read it.

I think you're being unjustifiably rude and offensive, particularly for someone who has posted only a few times and then only to seek help, not to offer it to others. Contrary to your claims about what you think you, and the rest of the world may know, you've demonstrated only ignorance.  Chris is one of a small group of knowledgeable, regular contributors here, he has earned and deserves respect.

I've only taken the trouble to reply myself because Chris may too brassed off to bother with you.

The Dell part number for the cable you may need is probably 045647. Now buzz off and go find one.

Hi,

My 2nd reply, wont go there. If you knew what I said, why did you need a link for a part you didn't know existed and would solve your problem ? Other Posts of mine have links to the very part. Should I have bought it and posted it to you ? I answered what you were asking, there are other ways to do what you want, but you didn't ask. I also confirmed that booting from the CD should work, and knowing that you could look to find out why you cant. Once again, you didn't ask why. Anyway, Im not interested in helping you, just someone else who may come across this Post. You may find computers too hard to understand, children's toys will be easier.

Hi,

You got the info you needed didn't you ? Most people are civil asking for more info, and it comes. Some say they are new, and don't know much about computers, and they get simple explanations and links for help. If you "go up" the person trying to help, others will be reluctant to help. Dell count the Posts, and I don't mention my IQ.

There is an old expression that you catch more flies with sugar than you do with arsenic.

wow, someone needs a nap! i'm surprised you haven't been banned already.

if your system is already flashed to BIOS level A16, you've set your boot order to CDROM first and it still will not boot from a CD, you may have a bad ROM drive (or a bad ROM)

now appoligise to Chris before you'll need Nomex to continue to post here
