Latitude D620 Bluetooth Module Question

Hello, I'm wondering if the Latitude D620 Bluetooth module is OS-specific? Our company has purchased a lot of D620's and they all had Vista pre-loaded. As our corporate Windows OS is XP Pro, we've imaged all of them to this. Everything works fine with the drivers downloaded from Dell with the exception of Bluetooth. The XP Bluetooth driver on the Dell site gives a firmware upgrade error and upon further investigation I see a KB article that states when downgrading from Vista -> XP the native XP SP2 BT drivers must be used. However, XP SP2 doesn't detect that I have Bluetooth. Speaking with Dell support they don't know why the Bluetooth module isn't working and said that it may be because the Bluetooth module ONLY works with Vista. Can someone give me a straight answer?

Hello,

I had the same issue on my D620 which carried a BT 350 Module that was originally from a D510.
I was dual booting Vista at the time I had this issue on the 620 but somehow got it working anyway.(on both XP and Vista)

Since today I have a 820 with Vista preloaded and I have again the same stuff , this time with a factory installed BT module.

I'll try and reinstall it tomorrow again ... There seems to be no way that you can get it working again once the BT device is removed once from Device Manager.

Have you tried installing the patch ? (there's 2 entries regarding BT in the software list)

I have the impression that you first need to extract the 'big' package , but don't install it.
Then apply the patch and afterwards start the setup.exe from c:\Dell\26Mbdriver\

THis way It 'almost' installed , but in the end I ended up with the question "Press FN+F2 to enable Bluetooth" (while it was enabled).
Several OKs didn't help, I clicked cancel and it messed up again.

Hi there - I have a similar problem. The BT module on my D620 stopped working after XP-SP2 was installed - I have all the requisite drivers but the machine refuses to believe that there is a BT adapter installed. I even bought a BT dongle just to make sure and it doesn't recognise that either. I guess my next option is to physically remove the chip and see what happens.

Hello,

If you read my first post , this is a continue :

-> Tried to install the Dell BT drivers and got stuck on a 'press Fn+F2' message

So I :

- Reinstalled my 820 with a fresh XP copy (from our corporate image)
- This time XP SP2 detected the BT chip without problems and it works fine !
But with the MS BT Stack ofcourse

- Tried to install the Dell BT drivers again and ended up on the same place with the Fn+F2
  message.

Luckily I ghosted my Machine before I tried to install the Dell drivers .... It's alive now with the MS BT stack.

Weird though ...

I have a Latitude D620 with bluetooth, I want to use BT as a general purpose COM port, I have a IOGEAR BT to RS232 module and I need the D620 BT to talk to the IOGEAR BT convert it to RS232 for remote telemetry.  I have loaded the BT driver for my D620, BT is on and can see the IOGEAR BT, but I cannot get D620 BT to connect to the IOGEAR BT.  Has anyone done anything like this before?

as a follow-up to my original question, dell has finally released a utility which downgrades the BT module firmware which comes with laptops pre-loaded with Vista. This will allow the BT module to function in other OS's such as XP and Linux.
