It was also shipped with the i5-2520 CPU, so that will work - so may other second-generation (Sandy Bridge) CPUs. Later CPUs (Ivy Bridge, Haswell, etc.) won't work.
The CPU you have and that i5 are 35W processors -you won't want to exceed 35W with that system, as it isn't designed to handle the heat from higher-power CPUs.

There is no problem to make the upgrade...
A few days ago I did the same - i3-2330M -> i7-2670QM
But after this you should to buy atleast 90W charger
