Latitude e5450 unresponsive touchpad

Every once in a while the Alps touchpad becomes extremely laggy to the point that its unusable. It seems to happen at random. Only way to fix is to reboot. No cpu intensive task are running in the background when this happen. I tried updating all the drivers etc. Happens plugged in or not. Any Ideas?

Thanks for replying.

1.  tried that, external mouse work flawlessly.

2. did that already, didn't help.

3,4 & 5. No error found. Didn't run the extended memory test tho. Touchpad works.

It didn't happen at all in the last 2 hours so who knows, might have accidentally fixed it. It could be that I disabled some multigesture in the Dell touchpad setting.

Hi FUJTAJ,

Since this a random issue and has not repeated, would advise you to keep the system under observation and get back to us if this persists.

You can also try the following steps to check if it helps:-

*Go to control panel > mouse

*In Mouse Properties goto Dell Touchpad tap. click on "Click to change Dell Touchpad settings"

*From "Sensitivity" turn on the touchpad

*From "Buttons" turn this on also.

Feel free to reach out to us, should you have any further questions.

Kindest Regards ,

Ok, so I'm now able to replicate this issue at will.

If I press harder on the bottom part of the touchpad the issue mentioned earlier arise. Light pressure doesn't triggers it but a bit more(Lets say, pressure you apply when checking for the doneness of a steak) makes the mouse unusable. A restart in win10 doesn't fix it, I have to turn off the computer and start again. I tried changing all kind of setting(including the one suggested) and it almost seems hardware based. Any ideas?

Regards,

Have you tried to enable TouchGuard under the sensitivity tab in the dell touchpad options? Its a weird issue. I'm still not sure what was causing it but its gone for me.

I turned on and off every option and the issue is still there...

I have the exact same problem mentioned earlier... "If I press harder on the bottom part of the touchpad the issue mentioned earlier arise. Light pressure doesn't triggers it but a bit more(Lets say, pressure you apply when checking for the doneness of a steak) makes the mouse unusable. A restart in win10 doesn't fix it, I have to turn off the computer and start again. I tried changing all kind of setting(including the one suggested) and it almost seems hardware based."...

Yeah it ***. I went through all the options and I was about to get the touchpad changed when it stopped. I don't know what fixed it though. I guess you have applied all the drivers and bios updates? Are you on windows 10?
