M1210 Making strange constant buzzing noise.
Hey everyone, I got my Dell M1210 just under two weeks ago, and it has all been smooth sailing so far. Basically I got a near top of the line specced out laptop, with the following specs: -> Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 2.16GHz, 4MB Cache, 667MHz FSB -> Windows Vista w/ AERO -> 3 years Complete Cover/Warranty -> 12.1" Wide Screen XGA display with TrueLife (1280x800 res.) and In-built 1.3MP Web Cam -> 2048MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM -> Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software -> 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache -> 120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400rpm) - I chose not to upgrade to 7200rpm for battery purposes, and I'm not too concerned about boot up times -> Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive w/ dual layer write capabilities -> 6-cell 56Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery (I didn't want a 9-cell since it sticks out of the back of the laptop quite noticeably) -> Wireless Bluetooth Module -> Wireless Card -> USB TV Tuner with Remote Control -> 5-in-1 card reader Now, I noticed last night whilst running off battery (and then I tried plugging it into the wall, and the same thing kept happening), that when I change the brightness settings to be 1 below full (on Battery), or 2 below full, or three below full, the laptop suddenly starts letting off a really strange and quite loud constant buzzing noise. Even whilst on full it lets off an audible buzz. Below these settings, the laptop is completely silent. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'm going to ring Dell first thing Monday morning to ask them about it. Cheers!

Hi I'd like to revive this thread. I've owned my M1210 for two-three weeks now, and the same problem happened after just the 2nd day. There is a buzzing noise from my screen. Sometimes it is remedied when I adjust the angle of the screen. Dell support has a note on this, they say it's related to the environment where my laptop is located. I'm not so sure about that, because i've used the laptop on many different places, with and without the usual environmental suspects that Dell has suggested to be the culprit, e.g. neon lights, power surge protectors, etc Another thing I noticed is that the buzzing stops temporarily when I adjust the screen contrast. Sometimes, the buzzing starts when contrast is low, so I adjust it to high. I have a feeling that it starts more often when the contrast is high, and it dies down when I adjust it to low. It's a matter of time before it starts again, and I have to play the same game. There is also a barely audible high-pitched noise, unrelated to the screen. But this doesn't bother me so much. Any remedy for my screen buzzing problem is appreciated!
