I have tried switching the cards around, trying to isolate if I had a bad on with no help. Please help!

It works normally with the factory RAM, it is generic RAM. Thanks for your help!

Does the system work properly with the original RAM?  If so, is the new RAM Dell-certified, or generic RAM (worse yet, ValueRAM)?

Value RAM is iffy. Try one module at a time to see if one might be defective. Better to buy from places, such as Crucial, which guarantee performance/

What you have to do is a memory test from the dianaustic disk or boot option and then boot, I had the same problem.

My system would not reconise the ram until after I did a mem. test.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but How can I check this memory if it never boots up?

Thanks for your help!!!!

When you first turn it on press F12 for the boot menu You might have to Dock the KB,  It is during the Post that it should enter boot menu.

If you have deleted the Diagonistic partition then put the Diagonistic CD in and boot to it for the mem test.

Did you ever get your issue with the memory fixed?  I'm booting my m2010 up right now and am getting the same thing.  Solid Power light, solid mute light, and the volume up and volume down lights are flashing.

jason51482,

I can tell you that those three lites, volume up & down, & mute button are error message lights.  I does appear from the attached that you have a memory problem. Maybe a bad stick. The lites referred to apply to the controls on the computer as well as wired keyboards. Have you tried to remove and reinstall them?

Hope this helps.

Where did you find out what the lights meant?  I have tried brand new memory and used memory and I get the same thing.  Solid power, solid mute light, flashing volume up and volume down lights.

I had my mobo, video, and fan replaced here weeks ago. When I power up, lites flashed across and back and stopped. That's as far as it went. My computer was dead. Tech support wanted me to watch the 3 lights upon power up and tell me what they did. The on site tech told me those lights were error code indications.

I found what is posted above by searching on line as I was curious about them. You can never assume all you find on line is true but these codes appear right. Not sure what to tell you to try next.

One other test tech support put me thru was the following. Power off the computer. Remove all add ons such as printers, ext. Hdd, etc., then  disconect the ac power. Remove the main system battery. Hold down the main power button for 10 seconds. Reinstall the main battery and hook up the AC only. Try the power button and see what happens. This procedure removes all power from the system and allows you to start with a fresh boot.

Don't know what this will tell you but good luck.

Well, I found out what the problem was.

If you have a M2010 and it's giving you the power light solid, mute light solid, and both volume up and volume down lights are blinking:  If you are using both slots A and B, take the memory stick out of slot B.  Put the panel back on, put the battery back in, plug the A/C back up and hit the power.

Worked For Me!!!!!

jason51482,

Glad you got it fixed but have a couple questions. Were you able to go back and put the stick back in B and get it to work or do you have a faulty stick?  I have both my slots full with 2gb each. It appears the error code was in the ballpark as It was a memory probllem.

At leaast your back up and running.

Are you going with Win 7 32 or 64 bit? There are well documented procedures for upgrading a M2010 to win 7 available. 32 bit is pretty straight fforward but 64 is toucher. The procedures include a step by step with the necessary drivers.  If you want any info about these procedures, there available as well as support on line from other converts. Let me know and I would be glad to offer any assistance you need. BIOS A06 will be what you need when done.
