M6800 Not booting up. NumLock 9 key on.

I have a Dell M6800 Laptop which had a Windows 8.1 x64 Enterprise O/S and 2x4GB of ram.  The machine was booting up fine earlier today but now it not boot.  It turns on and I get HDD activity lights but then the NumLock light comes on and stays on.  I don't get the option to get into BIOS, the screen is just blank.  From reading online this is Dell's 'Protection' system.  I've tried what others have recommended like resetting the bios by pulling the batter and ram and holding the power button for a minute.  Do I have any other options?

Just making sure you're applying the " power button for a minute fix's" correctly....

A) Power on computer

B) Unplug the Ac adapter from the wall socket

C) Remove the battery from the laptop

D} Press and hold in the " Power On " button for 15 seconds then release

E)  Replace the battery

F) Plug the Ac adapter into the wall socket, then the laptop

G) Press the "Power On" button. Hopefully your computer boot into windows

Or.....

Reset the BIOS to default values

If your computer is set to first attempt to boot to another device, this may cause issues with successfully booting to Windows. To reset your computer's BIOS to factory defaults, perform the following steps:

  1. Restart the computer
  2. At the Dell logo during restart, tap the F2 key repeatedly until you see Entering Setup in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Depending on the BIOS, you may need to press a key listed at the bottom of the screen to load default settings.
  4. Press ESC to exit the BIOS, and be sure to select Save and Exit to save your changes.

Soon as you power on computer, quickly start tapping the F12 key continuously for Diagnostic (or F2 key for BIOS). Please don't wait for the Dell icon to appear to start tapping.....
