Major problem with the 5150
About 4 months after i purchased my Dell Inspiron 5150 it stopped starting. It reaches the black windows startup screen just before windows is supposed to reach the blue logon screen, and it just stops working. I can see that the CPU indicator is not showing anything at the time when it has freezed. However, i later discovered that the computer needs to be heeted up before it starts. if i let it stay powered on after it has freezed for about half an hour or so and when i caan feel that the keyboard has gotten warm, it will start.... Just like my old car!!.
I have had this problem for about 3 months, and it has been like that every day without ecseption. it is not a virus or anything like that, because the problem continued after i had formatted the computer.
I belive it might be one of the drivers i recieved with the computer, because they are the only ones intalled after i formatted it. The reason i think it might be a driver, is because the computet does not need to be pre-heeted before startup when i start it in safemode
Can you people help me solve this problem? I just hate using over half an hour every day to start my computer

Hi Runilo. Honestly I would have said it was hardware problem but if it works in safemode then it seems unlikely. This sounds stupid but have you tried the Downloads button at the top of this page to see what is available, maybe if you have the latest drivers you could downgrade one driver at a time for each of your system components (maybe start with the graphics card) and see if you can isolate the problem part. You might not have the time I know but until someone else replies maybe tech support is the best option. For my part I've read a lot of the boards and have never come across this problem.
Cheers dtkirk
PS the best way to get problems solved is for people to remain polite or if that is not possible simply do not write anything. Also if someone writes something offensive don't rise to the occasion, just ignore it. Just my 2 cents worth.

Wow, this is what i call Service... The exact kind of service i have gotten, when contacting Dell on several occations.
Yes i have "thought about sending it in to Dell to be fixed", but the problem is that i use this computer every day at school, at really need it present every day, so i'm not about to send it away for 2 weeks to repair. And trust me it won't take less than 2 weeks here.
No, i have never called Dell Tech Support about this problem, because stupit me though't i'd get support here instead, and unlike the Tech Support maybe get feedback from A LOT more people that maybe have experienced this problem and have a solution for it. I even expected the Admins to help me out a bit.
I'm not gonna complain when the waranty has run out, because i never expected the Admins in here to take 4 month to give a suggestion on the problem. Does it look like I'm leaving this to the point where my waranty runs out??? I'm actually trying to use a little of that waranty on getting help on this Official Dell Support Forum.
May i ask what the fukk the problem is with me asking this Dell Forum about my problem???. Contacting this forum is the easiest solution for me at the moment and probably the best one... Eventough i start to doubt that right now. Was i offencive or anything im my message, or is this the kind of responce i can expect on another message about another problem?
I have once before contacted Dell on phone and e-mail, but that was about a missing network card. I made about 5 calls and sent about the same amount of e-mails. Every thing without result. I'm not gonna tell you the whole story, but trust me, i'm not gonna try that again.
Why don't you just use that pice of $hit you call your computer and stay away from this forum, if you have have messages like that to write

Hmmmm, you probably should call Tech support, it sounds like your laptop might need a service so you should schedule one with them.... not sure specifically what the issue might be as I have rarely seen a problem like it.

I am sorry for my tone in my first post but I have heard this before on these forums."I have a problem with my notebook that started 2 month after I got it. I didn't think it was a big deal and I needed it for (work, school, you pick one) and didn't want to loose it for the time it takes to get it fixed. Now the warranty is over and Dell won't do anything for me.
These are user forums and are not really connected to Dell support in any way. Yes you might get a few good suggestions on what might be wrong and how to fix it but Dell Inc. will not post here telling you how to fix the problem. Since your notebook is under warranty the best thing to do is call Dell tech support and at least report the problem. As others have said it could just be a driver problem and updating the various drivers for your notebook could fix you right up.
