Master Parts Number List?
Hi all,
So I broke down my XPS m1330 (in order to put in a new motherboard and heatsink with intel integrated graphics card.) My computer too succumbed to the overheating/nVidia rainbow lines of death problem.
The XPS m1330 was the first Dell I ever bought - so I've never taken apart a Dell before. But now my bracket for my optical drive is all bent up. I need to get a new one. It should be a fairly cheap part, but I can't find a master parts list for the m1330. I don't know the part # so I'm not even sure I can find one. Is there some online comprehensive source? I've been googling my fingers off.
What's up with not publishing a master parts list with the laptop? Every other laptop or desktop I've owned has had a parts list comprehensive right down to the screws in the back of the owners manual.
And I don't know if the m1330 was just a particularly salient example of an $1100 piece of junk...but at least 2 of the screws were stripped right in their screw holes. They would turn and turn, and not come out. Real screws...not captive screws. Some others were in so tight the heads nearly stripped off trying to get them out. This is how I lost the optical drive bracket. Has anyone ever had problems breaking down this box?
I didn't have that problem with any of my HPs or Toshibas. And recently I switched the keyboard in my Studio to the backlit one and didn't have any problems. Is it just this XPS m1330 was THAT bad?
After I'm done with this studio, I'm not sure I'm going back to dell. I know these laptops are all made by Acer or Foxconn, but I think the XPS m1330 was such and absolute stinker of an experience - it has pretty much sworn me off never taking the chance again.

There is no "master parts list" that you're looking for. If it's a separately available part, there will be a label on it with the part number.
I haven't seen Dell use Foxconn to build notebooks -- the two biggest suppliers are Quanta and Compal. They're the same suppliers HP and Toshiba use, by the way.
