Microsoft System Management BIOS driver
Hi All,
I seem to have a problem with my Microsoft System Management BIOS driver error code 39, no I looked it up on several website telling me to deinstall plaug and play etc, but the point is that it can't find the driver afterwards, I have reinstalled my system to try to get rid of the problem but it doesn't seem to help
I also have another error message whe I try to open Windows Explorer; Unable to create an instance of required object: FileProxy
On top of that I can't seem to install the SP2 since files are missing.
I don't know if these things are all linked but it is very annonying to say the least. Can somebody shed some light on this please.
Ta

Simple the chipset in your system is newer than what was around when XP was originally released. XP has never had the chipset drivers updated so if you don't install the newer drivers for your chipset some of the advanced features of the chipset will not be used. I have a i8200 and needed to load the chipset drivers to it when I reinstall the OS. My system is older then yours so if my system needs them to function to it's full capability I think yours does also. And the simple fact is Dell would not include this download for your system if it wasn't needed. Not to say Dell has not messed up in the past or won't mess up in the future but I know for a fact you need to install the chipset drivers.
But hey do what you think best.

Look on the Intel site or
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_8500&category=27&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=1134&devlib=27
That is from the Dell download site. Look there for updated drivers for all your hardware. Most of the time all Dell notebooks ship with old/outdated drivers installed and on the Drivers and Utilities CD that comes with the unit. Dell make 1 CD image when the system was designed and originally shipped and never updates it unless there is a major change in the installed hardware. But they do update most of the drivers for each model on the website.
