Extended desktop is turned off on the second monitor; the box is checked for the primary monitor.

I can't help but think this should be an easy fix.

I messed with the settings some more; including the graphics settings  nad everythings to be the way it should be, but I'm still having the problem.

ok thought about this a bit more cuz this sounds really tricky, u may have to attach the monitor back and then disable it.  but it sounds like u might not be able to do this.  if you right click on the desktop background do you either have nvida graphics option or an ATI option and try looks at the settings in there.

guh can't believe i didn't think of this! ok on ur keyboard press fn+f8, this toggles the screen from laptop view to, monitor view or both! so just surf through those controls and see how that goes! =D be patient to as its a bit tedious

bugger, i was mucking around with a laptop here by extending the desktop then removing it, and it goes back automaticly.  are you pressing apply after u change these settings, i know its sorta stupid to ask and u may be feeling frustrated.  I notice on mine that u select the monitor in the display panel (its like 2 blue screens labbele 1 and 2) and u take the tick off the extend desktop and click apply.

The test i performed was extend the dekstop move a program like notepad over to the monitor then unplug the monitor and open notepad, and notepad shot off the screen, so i ticked off extend desktop and it came back.

the only thing we can probably try left is getting another monitor to setup and then moving the programs back on to laptop and disable it.

I tried the fn+f8, but all that does is make the screen flash twice. I don't see anything else or any "controls."

Thanks for trying.  When I go to properties (wish I could post a screen shot) and click on the second (2) monitor nothing is checked.  When you click on the primary monitor (1) both, use this device as the primary monitor AND extend my windows desktop onto this monitor are checked--there is no way of unchecking them, but then this is for the primary monitor not the secondary.

The only other thing that confuses me is under display (again in the properties window)

It says that #1 is a plug and play monitor and number #2 is the default monitor.   To my way of thinking this should be the other way around, but far be it from me to figure out how to switch it.

Thanks again, I appreciate your help.
