BertyBeak,

Install the latest touchpad driver for your system.  You can download it from this link:

Hi

Use to have the same problem, updating the drivers for the pointing devices did not help. Try this fix it cured the mouse pointer drifting off to the top right of the screed for me.

Go into control panel

Click on - Mouse (mouse properties window should pop up)

Click on – Touch (label at top)

Change Properties for :- Pointing Stick on PS/2 port

Put a Tick In – Disable this Device (little box near bottom left

Click – OK

You should now have fixed your problem

Thanks for replies

I have updated drivers as Steve suggested and no problems yesterday - but this is an intermittant problem ..........

Tom - this is where I get confused.  Having updated the touchpad driver, in control panel and device manager, the Intellipoint mouse entry has been replaced by Alps Touchpad - that Windows thinks is on PS/2. There is still no Touchpad tab anywhere.  Any suggestions?

Thanks.

hi, just wanted to say that i was having the same problem with my inspiron 8500 and was finally able to fix it by following tom's advice (thank you so much!).

i'm running windows xp pro, so the only difference in my case (and perhaps this will help others), is that i had to go into the mouse properties (control panel) and in the 'device select' tab (default view), i disabled the 'pointing stick' and 'pointing stick buttons'. did the trick!
