Mouse suddenly goes into continuous selection mode across all applications

I am running a Latitude D620 with Windows XP Pro. Every now and then the mouse suddenly starts behaving as if it were in a "continuous selection mode"--as if the Shift key were permanently being held down. It does this across all applications when it happens and so far the only fix is a Restart. This happens in or out of a docking station and with the mouse or trackpad. I've had other Latitudes in the past and never experienced this problem. Is this a Windows or a hardware problem? Any ideas?

I am experiencing the same problem with 4 (so far) of our laptops.  Have you been able to find anything to fix this?  This is not a constant problem, but is annoying when it happens.

No solution yet. Are your laptops also D620s?

Yes, we have a number of D620's.   But only 4 of them are having this intermittent problem.

I haven't confirmed this solution works every time, but the last couple times if I press the Ctrl and Shift keys at the same time it seems to clear it up.
