My graphics card switched from Invidia to Intel, please help.
Hello, first let say that I have not kept up with the computer world for a few years so I'm severely behind the time.
OK, so I just finished installing a game on my brand new Inspiron (barely 2 weeks old) and after install the game gave me a run-down of my hardware to let me know it was sufficient to run the game or not. Under graphics card it said Intel HD 4000. So I tried to look into it and found that my Nvidia card is not listed under my hardware. In fact, the only trace of it on my computer is an icon in the taskbar that I can supposedly adjust the setting with. When I run it it says "You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU." So I came to Dell.com and downloaded the latest drivers, but it when I try to install it says "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."
I know the card is there because I was looking at the settings when the laptop first arrived (I didn't tweak any of them, but it definitely had an NVIDIA card installed). Also, when I ran the dell tool that looks at my laptop to determine what drivers I might need it clearly showed that the card was/is/should be there. I don't care so much about how or why it switched on me automatically and disappeared, but I do care about having the laptop recognize the card and actually use it when I need to.
The only thing I have done with the graphics card was during a windows update it downloaded some drivers for the NVIDIA card and installed them.

I forgot to mention that I transferred my setting over from my old laptop with a Belkin easy transfer cable. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I thought I should mention it.

Hi Pavlos1092,
I suggest that you to check for the video cards in the device manager. Click on ‘Start’ and in the Search box type ‘Device manager’. Click on ‘Device Manager’ folder. In the ‘Device Manager’ window, click on the triangle to the left of ‘Display adapters’. Check if both NVidia and Intel graphics card is listed. In case only one is listed, check under ‘Other Devices’ and if there is any bang under the same.

Also I suggest you send me a private message with the system service tag to assist you further.

I am having a similar problem. I had never heard of switchable display adapters, only realized I had them when dxdiag said I was using Intel HD Graphics 4000 instead of Nvidia drivers. I had tried to install updated drivers directly from Nvidia and I think the system no longer recognizes the Nvidia GPU at all. Yesterday it was listed on the device manager, now I can't find it at all. I am trying to download the driver from Dell, but if it is not recognizing the hardware at all, that will likely not work. Thing is, I don't even want switchable adapters, I could care less about battery life, I use my laptop almost exclusively plugged in. I want best performance. Can I force the system to use ONLY the Nvidia GPU I paid extra $$$ for?
