N7110 3.0 USB doesn't work after window update.

There are certain window updates that would cause my USB 3.0 not to function. The only USB port that still work is the 2.0, until there's another window update that might re-activate the usb 3.0 to work again. I have this problem all the time and it gets very annoying, how could certain software update will affect the usb 3.0 driver to not function? I've never seen any problem like this on any other brand of laptop except Dell. I need all of my USB ports because i need to do work on my laptop but this problem is making it impossible for me. I've put in the driver disk to load in the Regenis 3.0 USB driver and still...nothing!

Hi nikki_nhi,

Please share the operating system installed on your computer (Windows 7 / Windows 8). Also let us know, if you have identified any specific Windows update which is causing this issue.

You may try the following steps:

  • Perform the complete Windows update. You may refer to the link http://bit.ly/XaI6fU to update Windows.

  • Update the Chipset, BIOS and USB 3.0 drivers from the link: http://dell.to/U2ABjf(Make sure that you have selected the correct Operating System before you download the drivers). Please follow the following steps to download and install the drivers:

    • Click 'Download file' to download the list to a folder you will designate.
    • Click 'Save'. Then designate the folder you would like to save the files to.
    • Once you have designated the folder you would like to save your files to, Click 'OK'.
    • Selected downloads will automatically start downloading. Next is Installation.
    • To start installation, Click Open folder. Right-click a downloaded file and select the option to ‘Run as administrator’.
    • A small window will appear with 'Continue' and 'Exit' buttons, click 'Continue'.
    • In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.
    • If a message appears asking to create a folder, click 'Yes'. If a message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click 'Yes to All'.
    • In the All files were successfully unzipped window, click OK.
    • A new window will appear, follow the prompts that appear to finish the installation.

  • Restart the system and check if USB 3.0 port works.

Hope this helps. Please share the findings.

Hi nikki_nhi,

Thank you for sharing the information.

Please check if all the Windows updates are correctly installed under Installed Updates. Also check if there is any update which has failed, if yes, please share the details for it. Please provide the details of the update which you think might be causing USB 3.0 to be non-functional.

Try the following steps:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller.
  3. Right click on every USB Root Hub, and click uninstall from the drop down menu.
  4. Uninstall the USB Root Hubs. Check the screenshot for clarification.

  5. Restart the system and let the system install the generic drivers after restart.
  6. If the USB 3.0 port does not work with the generic drivers, please install the USB 3.0 drivers from the link: http://dell.to/Y3FpdK

Please paste a screen shot of the device manager after trying the aforementioned steps.
