No Luck with CRT/LCD Button -- External Monitor Does Not Display
Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 700m laptop computer. When I connect the computer to my television set (a/k/a an external monitor), hold the "Fn" key, and press F8 (the "CRT/LCD" button), my laptop's screen flashes and no image appears on the external monitor. A friend of mine has a Dell XPS M1210, and -- going through the same steps -- we were able to get the same set-up to work. Does anyone have any suggestions for what may be the problem? Could this simply be an issue of outdated or incorrect drivers? Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions.
Regards,
Aranas
P.S. Unlike the XPS M1210, my Inspiron 700m doesn't even display -- when I press the "CRT/LCD" key -- the box with the three display options: integrated display, external monitor, and both displays simultaneously. The monitor simply flashes to black.

TV-out from the Inspiron 700m is S-video only. Therefore the TV set needs an S-video input. After connecting the laptop to the TV with a standard S-video to S-video cable the laptop must be rebooted, Then the display settings for TV must be enabled as follows:
Enabling the Display Settings for a TV
Integrated Video Controller
NOTE: Ensure that you properly connect the TV before you enable the display settings.
1 Click the Start button and click Control Panel.
2 Click Appearances and Themes.
3 Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Display.
4 Click the Settings tab and click Advanced.
5 Click the Intel (R) Extreme Graphics tab.
6 Click Graphic Properties.
7 If you want to use only a TV without using the computer display or any other display options:
a In the new window, click TV so that a red check mark appears directly on top of the TV icon.
b Ensure that the settings are correct.
8 If you want to use a TV and the computer display at the same time:
a In the new window, click Intel (R) Dual Display Clone and ensure that one of the
devices listed is a TV.
b Click Device Settings.
c In the new window, ensure that the display resolution settings are correct.
9 Click Apply to view the new settings.
10 Click OK to confirm the settings change.
11 Click Yes to keep the new settings.
12 Click OK.
