No sound after installing XP on 1521 (error code 0xC00D11BA)

After changing the OS I get a message that says no audio device, and the error code. I ran various trouble shooting checks and every thing checks fine. How can I get the sound back? I down loaded the drivers from the download page.

I wonder what you downloaded? Here is the XP download page for the 1521 and there is no audio driver offered.

Reportedly the Latitude D531 XP drivers can be used for the 1521:
D531 XP drivers

a. Install Dell Notebook System Software R154270 (click the + sign next to System Utilities). Restart.

b. Next and most important, install the AMD Processor Driver driver R135384 (click the + sign next to Chipset). Restart.

c. Finally re-install the Sigmatel audio driver R153908 (click the + sign next to Audio). Restart.

Rarely there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In those cases follow this tip from forum member rpilT2005: check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it, under the "System Devices" grouping. Hit 'update driver' on that one, and it should find the driver.

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply. When I read it I thought "Oh Boy" you gave such good direction as to over come the no sound problem. You must have known I am not computer literate. But I did encounter a problem. When I went to down load and install the Dell Notebook System Software R-154270 the Dell System Software Install Shield Wizard would not let me do it. It said "Setup Cannot Run on this Machine. Is there something that can be done? As you stated others have used these drivers and done so successfully.
Any more assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. The laptop is really my daughters and I would like to give it back to her with XP as she doesn't care much for Vista.

Again Thank You.

Donald,

Actually I'm not sure anyone has used these drivers successfully. I got the report from a fellow on the software board who said they were compatible with the 1521. I corresponded with him briefly and he was very definite about it, but I never confirmed he personally had installed them in a 1521.

I'd say to try to proceed without the NSS. The Processor is the important one and it might turn out that the NSS is not necessary.

When you install the Sigmatel driver, here is a note I saved from someone who used that driver on a Latitude D830:

"After reloading XP on this computer, I initially couldn't get the SigmaTel audio to work. The problem is with the Windows Audio service. After you install the latest audio driver (R153908) and run it, don't immediately restart. Go into the c:\dell\drivers\r153908\wdm directory and run suhlp.exe. Then your SigmaTel audio will be detected and run properly." quandtj D830
