Notification dll has not been registered, program will not work properly
Following an attempted system restore, my laptop will not start up. The screen is black and showing this error message. I can only shut down by using the power button. If anyone can help, l will be very grateful!

The hard drive test results are that the hard drive is bad and will need to be replaced.

System model? Have you run a full diagnostic (F12 at powerup)? If not, that's in order - including an extended hard drive test (available after the quick diagnostics run).

It's an Inspiron 1545. I have followed your advice and run the diagnostic. I have the following error messages.
2000-0412 Hard Drive 0 - Self-test unsuccessful
0F00-065D. disk - DST Self-test Read error
0F00: 133C disk - No suitable disk media is present
