Onboard smartcard reader not reading certain smartcard brands

My company just bought a bunch of D820s with internal 02micro 0Z772 smart card readers installed.  This smartcard reader will not read certain brands of smartcards.  This is bad since corporate policy requires use of a smartcard to log onto a computer.  In the system log files there is  error "SCardSvr" and the error description is "Smart Card Reader 'O2Micro CCID SC Reader 0' rejected IOCTL POWER: The device does not recognize the command".  I am running XP Pro w SP2
