P28F charging problems
Hi all.
I have a Dell P28F laptop, bought about a year ago.
To date it has been working pretty faultlessly.
However, I disconnected it from mains power to show something to a workmate and it shut down instantly. This is something I do regularly but the shutdown has never happened before.
I rebooted (on mains power) and it booted up with a message telling me my battery was flat, something I knew couldn't be the case. I shut down, removed and replaced the battery and now it said I had 100% battery power, but unplugging the mains power caused an instant shutdown.
I am backing up now, preparing for a disaster and I noticed the battery light was alternating between red and white. It is now a dull white glimmer.
Any thoughts?
Regards
Pat Clarke

Hi Pat,
Thanks for posting in the USA Forum.
Unfortunately, batteries last only about a year to 18 months. The thing that kills them the most is to leave them on charge all the time.
Based upon your description, there could be several issues in play. One would be the battery, the other, the charging system on the motherboard, or the power adapter. If you are still under warranty, please contact Tech support in your country for assistance. The battery is only warranted for 1 year, so it may no longer be covered. If it is something internal, then they may be able to assist you.
If you need further assistance, you may contact me privately.
Regards,
Robert
