PCMCIA Card Recognition

Hi all...

I have an Inspiron 8200 running XP/SP2.  I use a Linksys 802.11b Wireless Network PCMCIA Card everyday in the top PCMCIA slot.  In order to use my new Adaptec DuoConnect card for USB2.0 and 1394 devices, I've moved the wireless network card to slot 2.  The device is recognized in device manager as a "Generic Multifunction PC-Card", not a network adapter and does not function.  I've scanned through most of the PCMCIA threads but did not see a simular problem.

Let me know if more info is needed to work this problem.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Charlie

In the second slot. Windows recognizes the card as a different card (it doesn't find out that the card you put in slot 2 is the same card that was in slot 1 a minute ago). All I can suggest is reinstall the drivers (click the Update Driver button in the properties dialog of your "Generic Multifunction PC-Card").

Thanks for the advice.  I tried to upgrade the driver on the "Generic Multifunction PC Card" without success.   However, after doing a search on Dell Tech Support and MS KB this article showed up... Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 272248 CardBus Adapter Not Enumerted at Boot with Texas Instruments 4451 CardBus Controller.  The problem seems to be with the Pover Management Event (PME) signalling.  The "resolution" states "Some Original Equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have resolved this problem in the computer's BIOS by reading the PME status line multiple times when it is signaled, and passing the PME signal only if the PME line remains active for more than a brief period (for example, for more than three milliseconds).

Soooo, I've upgraded my BIOS to A11 in hopes that it may help, without success.  How do I ask Dell if they've looked at this problem and what they suggest??
