Please plug in a supported device. Help please?
I have a Dell N5110 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and the webcam is built-in. I have also tested with an external USB webcam, but I get the same results.
So far I have uninstalled/reinstalled the webcam, updated the drivers and tried the regedit fix posted by Igor at the link below.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistahardware/thread/c8f56336-2fcf-4103-ac19-2f30ab5578b6/
I've done a clean boot, checked the Task Manager for programs that may be using it, as well as checked the Process Explorer. Also, I do not have the facial recognition software installed, which I know can be an issue.
The error in the title appears when opening Dell Webcam Central and Skype. At testmycam.com, I get a blank white screen.
HOWEVER, when I run Webcam Diagnostics at the link below under the 64-bit setting, the light next to my webcam lights up and it works!
http://www.fivesign.com/downloads/program/Webcam-Diagnostics_29430_1.html?affChecked=1
I've never had an issue using my webcam with either of these until a few weeks ago and I cannot think of any major changes I have made to the system since then. I'm a bit confused about what to do next so any help would be appreciated. Let me know if any more information is required as I'm sure I forgot something. Again thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the help. I decided to restore my system to factory default, after saving my files to an external drive of course, and the webcam is now working good.

I followed those steps, but sadly it didn't make a difference as I'm still getting the same errors. I was thinking about backing up my files and restoring to factory defaults, but if I could I'd rather not. Furthermore, I'm not even sure if that would make a difference. Do you have any more ideas, and if not do you think restoring would fix the problem? Thanks.

It's not working in Dell Webcam Central or Skype.
Here are screenshots showing Dell Webcam Central, Skype and Webcam Diagnostics.
Just some more info... It won't let me change from VDP on Skype and as you can see in the Webcam Diagnostics picture the camera is working. Any thoughts?

So I tried making a new account, but the errors keep showing up. I don't think the webcam is disconnected, though, because as in my first post if I open the Webcam Diagnostics the webcam works perfectly fine in that window only. I don't think the issue is hardware related at all, but I'm not quite sure what could be the issue at this point.

rycr,
You can try creating a new unrestricted user account. If the webcam works, log off, then log back in to your account. The webcam should work.
You can try Test Webcam and see if it works.
If that doesn't work, then the webcam came loose from the motherboard, usually at the top of the screen, near the webcam. If your computer is under warranty, contact Dell Tech Support.

rycr,
If it works with Dell Webcam Central, then try an older version of Skype
I have Skype 6.0.0.126 installed.

Yeah it is in Capture mode. I'm not quite sure what you mean setting it to 640x480 as there is no place that I can see where I can change that setting.

rycr,
My suspicions are the webcam needs unplugged, then plugged back in with the system turned on. The only way I know is to gently get you nails under the plastic bezel on the sides first, then the top. The corners are the toughest. Some models are attached in the corners some aren't

It doesn't give me that option as it is grayed out and not able to be selected. Do you have any other ideas as to what it could be?
