Plugged in not charging
My laptop has had the plugged in not charging issue for a few weeks intermittently. It started when my battery said that it had errors.
I ordered a new battery as my computer is a few years old, and it had been decreasing in battery life, hoping that the plugged in not charging message would disappear with the new battery. Unfortunately this was not the case.
My computer could run while plugged in, however wouldn't charge the battery. This wasn't idle, but was okay. This changed however when the computer stopped recognizing that it was even plugged in.
To trouble shot, I plugged it in with a different power cord and for a week the problem ceased. Now however, the error message has returned and the battery will only charge directly after following these steps from http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/plugged-in-not-charging-windows-7-solution/:
- Disconnect AC
- Shutdown
- Remove battery
- Connect AC
- Startup
- Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Batterylistings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).
- Shutdown
- Disconnect AC
- Insert battery
- Connect AC
- Startup
If after these steps I unplug the computer, the battery will not charge if reconnected.
Any suggestions as to what it wrong and how to fix it or other steps to take to determine this?
Thanks for your help.

I tried that download, but it did not help.
If I am no longer under warranty, how much would this repair cost approximately?

Before going to that, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter.
If that doesn't solve the problem, post the system model number.

I did try a new AC adapter. The thing is that it recognized it and charged for about a week, and it would registrar as plugged in, but not charge.

Next would be to find out if the power jack is replaceable -- what model is the system?

N4110, but we're probably taking it into a shop to get them to check it out.
