Possible reasons for Precision M6800 memory error code

I tried to upgrade my Dell Precision M6800 memory with a couple of 8GB 1866MHz DDR3L "guaranteed compatible" modules and got error leds solid-blinking-solid which is explained in the manual as: "The memory modules are detected but has encountered an error". Does anyone know if that is always a sign of malfunctioning modules or can it give that error on some normal incompatibility for which there seems to be a separate code?

I had the same problem with the M6800. I had to go with a single brand of matching modules. There was a latency or timing mismatch between different brands of modules which was slowing down the processor and video.

In my case they were all the same. I removed the old ones first and tried the new ones alone individually and in pairs, every time same error. The modules are currently being investigated by the manufacturer.

I ran into the same problem but got it to work.  The original two 4GB modules were installed in the slots on the bottom of the laptop.  I installed two new 8GB modules under the keyboard, and experienced the error.  I removed the originals and placed the new modules where they had been, and all worked.  I installed the originals under the keyboard, and then they all worked together!

I don't know what the problem is or was, but this might work for someone else who runs into this.  It doesn't make sense to me, but I'm glad I tried it!
