Power Adapter Problem with PR01X & Latitude D600

Hi there

Just bought myself a lovely new docking station, but i cannot get it to work.

I have a PA-10 power supply plugged into the docking station, however when turned on it says 'your workstation is docked, but the power adapter type cannot be determined'
and i cannot get any further than this.

the power adapter works fine when plugged directly into the laptop.

on the bottom of the docking station is says for use with power adapter PA-10 and PA-13.

any ideas?

many thanks

thanks Bigbrother for your reply

i managed to find out what the problem is. the PA-10 is not outputting it's wattage, when you enter the BIOS and go to the battery/power supply page the AC type is showing as unknown, thus the docking cannot work

it's something i was never aware of as the adapter works fine when not connected through the docking station. so i'll need a replacement it seems

i doubt this can be fixed? is this some sort of seperate signal that is produced?

thanks again :smileyhappy:

cruiser277777,

Check the power adapter connector to see if the tiny pin in the middle of it is bent, damaged or broken.

cruiser277777,

The little pin in the middle of the power adapter connector is what provides info to the docking station or to the notebook about the adapter's power rating.  If that pin is broken or missing or if the socket on the docking station has a problem, then the adapter will be unable to report it's wattage rating.  While I suspect that it can be fixed, it seems impractical to do so.  Obtaining a replacement is the better option.
