Ah, might this be a case of 'Dell error in your favour, collect a Vodafone SIM'?
I don't suppose the SIM is actually any use to me, though, right?

No use whatsoever. Without being Activated and having the WWAN hardware aka card its as useless as a random key found on the ground that you dont know what it goes to.
