Precision 5510 and D3100 docking station stops hardware graphics.

I have recently purchased a 5510 and a D3100 docking station. Used primarily for solidworks and rhino. My issue is that besides 4k and older applications being terrible bedmates is that the docking station stops the quadro so everything is running software open gl. I understand the new thunderbolt dock DB16 has some additional graphics capabilities but they are by no means a quadro solution, nor it is recognized by solidworks.

This is hugely problematic. Is there a method to remedy this? Attempting to access the quadro settings while plugged into the docking station results in windows stating that the hardware is not available.

When not connected to the D3100, does the 5510 Nvidia Control Panel- Manage 3D Settings, allow you to choose the Global Setting tab, and then force Quadro as the ONLY GPU used? If yes, try this and then connect to the D3100 and retest.

Unfortunately, not a solution that works. Again same windows messages show. Very unfortunate. Stopped the buying process dead for the rest of the engineering staff.

Does this help?

1. Open the laptop lid and enable internal laptop display

2. Make the internal laptop display the 'Main' display using the Windows Display Settings application (must NOT be a display connected to the dock)

3. Reboot system

4. Test again

Again, not a solution.

I have read that this may be bios related and a solution exists for the 7510 but not yet the 5510. You cannot disable the cpu side on the 5510.

Still hoping for an answer as the 5510 travels so much better than the 7510
