Precision 7710 screen will not wake

Frequently, the screen on my Precision 7710 will not wake up. I can actually remotely connect to the laptop at this time and work on it fine but sitting in front of it, the only thing that works is a hard reboot. I've similar issues on other models related to BIOS. I figured that Windows 10 updates would fix the problem but it persists since Dec-15 when I bought it. Anybody managed to find a fix for this?

I turned off Optimus (Switchable Graphics) in the BIOS and the problem has not occurred for over a week.

Seeing the same issue this morning on my Precision 7710 running Windows 10 - thanks for posting

I'm having the same issues. Has anybody had luck in finding a solution?

I spoke with Dell about this issue. They recommended upgrading BIOS and video driver (but this actually made things worse for me! But only when I close the laptop lid. If I leave it open, the screen goes to sleep but wakes up with a mouse move or keyboard tap as expected):

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=Y7P0H&fileId=3537254989&osCode=W764&productCode=precision-m7710-workstation&languageCode=en&categoryId=BI

Finally, they suggested to reinstall the OS which I always find a crazy solution so I'm not going through all that,

In the interim, I have set the power button to put the laptop to "sleep" so when it happens, a quick click on the button to put it into sleep mode (wait till keyboard backlights go off) then another quick click and you're back at the login page but at least none of your applications closed down like with a hard reboot.

Same issue here. Dell reimaged my machine and it is still not waking from sleep.

Also experiencing the same issue. Just installed a fresh install of Windows 10 Enterprise. Ran through the Dell Driver detect software and upgraded all found updates and BIOS. The BIOS version is 1.7.3 9/7/2016. the OS version is 10.0.14393 Build 14393.

The display drivers are Intel HD Graphics 530 v.20.19.15.4483 & AMD FirePro W5170M v.15.201.2901.1004

What else can Dell suggest? I can't keep telling my user to hard boot his laptop everytime.

The first Precision 7710 (purchased in June 2016) had the motherboard replaced (by Dell in September 2016) and this seemed to resolve the screen issues we had described in this post.

We are now on the second Precision 7710 (purchased in August 2016 but only unboxed last month).  Issue is with screen going black but power still on but cannot get screen to "wake".  After much searching found this thread.  I just turned off Optimus (Switchable Graphics) in the BIOS to see if this resolves the issue.  I will post the results in a few days.

This fix worked for me. My computer (not just the display) would not wake up from sleep, ever, from new. I would press the power button which glows while in the sleep mode and it would simply turn the computer off.

THANK YOU so much for the fix

I unchecked all 3 boxes in the referenced BIOS Display/Video option

That was Dell's solution for me as well, but I found that is just a waste of Dell's and my time. Shutting off the Display option in the BIOS, described above worked for me after, 2 months of frustration with my new/refurbished M7710
