Precision M90, replace HDD and CPU

Hi,

i try to find out if and how i can upgrade system components in my Precision M90. I'm a bit lost in the dell support website.

i now have a Western Digital SATA driv with 120 GB and 5400 rpm.  Would it be possible to upgrad to a bigger drive, even with 7200 rpm?

And do i have to buy it from dell not to break the computer's warranty?

(the same with CPU upgrade)

regards, Marc

You can use any 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive - 7200 fine, up to 500 G, which is as large as they come.

No matter where you buy it, upgrading the CPU DOES void the warranty.

Thanks for answering.

- So, does installing a new HDD, wherever i buy it, not void the warranty?

- Is there no way to upgrade the CPU via DELL, without stopping the warranty?

The hard drive is customer-replaceable and will not void the warranty.

CPU upgrades are not supported by Dell at all - you're on your own there, and any damage caused by the upgrade or new CPU will not be covered.  If you upgrade the CPU, keep the original for the duration of the warranty - were you to need service, you would need to reinstall it.
