Problem after re-installing Windows XP Pro on Inspiron 5100

My laptop was getting the blue  screen of death recently due to spyware problems... I tried all sorts of stuff to get it off, and then decided today to re-install windows and the drivers. Well everything seems fine except for my internet connection.  I can't get it to hook up or find an available network, one thing that I can see is that my IP address is no longer on the computer (I have an installed wireless card and the Linksys wireless router with Comcast Broadband here at home).

At first I thought it was something to do with the driver for the wireless card because the one on the disc is for a 1400 but mine is a 1300, so I deleted the 1400 and found that the 1300 it was still in a folder in the C drive.  I suspect that there is more than that for a problem because I tried hooking the cable from my broadband directly into the laptop and still can't log on.  So anyway now it's two in the morning and I am asking for HELP!  I can't remember where the IP addresses came from on my computers, and I am getting a nagging feeling now that this is a dumb question... but how do I get the IP address back?  Do I just call Comcast or do I have to call Dell?

I don't know if I did or not.  I put the driver disc in, and went to Inspiron 5100 Windows XPP and then installed all of the things that popped up on the list.  Is there another name for the chipset driver?

Thank you Boppo, After I reinstalled the Chip Set, I ended up calling Dell for support. I spoke with two very nice women who patiently walked me through all the steps.  Turns out that my wireless card, my broadcom, and ATI mobility driver also needed to be reinstalled.  I am now back on line and reinstalling my McAfee.

After reading some of the posts on here last night, I believe that I will stick around and try to soak up some knowledge about my computer.  Thanks again!
