Problems after upgrade to Win 10

I have a "not-supported-for-windows-10" Dell Latitude E4200 from 2011 that after upgrade to Win 10 can 1.) no longer read SD-cards, which is essential for my work, or 2.) use external speakers/earphones, which is not essential but nice to have;)

Is there anything I can do? (I can't afford to buy a new computer right now ...)

Thanks in advance for any helpful tips & tricks :)

Hi. Why don't you just revert the laptop back to the operating system in which it worked properly if essential functions don't work in Win10?

The audio ought to start working right if you install the Win 7 IDT audio driver using compatibility mode.

1. Download and save the hard drive version of the driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.
2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.
3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates.
4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.
5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).
6. Find the "setup.exe" file.
7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.
8. Select the Properties.
9. Select the Compatibility tab.
10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win7.

Thanks for trying to help me!

The link takes me to a "dowloadplace" but the file that arrives is an exe.file not a zip-folder. If I run the .exe-file I end up with a popup telling me the driver isn't compatible with my new OS ...

Is it complicated to revert to Win 7? :/

The link in my earlier post is to Dell's page for the IDT audio driver for your laptop. Under the section "Available Formats" there are 2 downloads. The first is the 20Mb Update Package and the other one is the 18Mb hard drive version. Download the hard drive version and see if it works out better.

If you keep going down the driver page you will see "Installation Instructions".  There are 2 sections to the instructions. The 1st is for the Update download and the other one is for the Hard Drive download. My instructions above are a modified version of the Hard Drive download instructions.

I don't know if it is a hairy process or not. You can find the instructions by googling or going to Microsoft. I believe you are allowed to revert to the previous operating system within 30 days of "upgrading" to Win10.

If you like Windows 10, you could always get a USB external card reader and a USB headphone set or speakers... you can find some for cheap that works fine. Just saying...

Most of the issues like those you're encountering are because of the Upgrade procedure. A proper clean installation of Windows 10 TH2 is not likely to have the same issues.
