Hello,

First thing I would recommend is reading this article from Microsoft about why you can connect to some websites but not others.

Which websites are you unable to connect to?  Is there anything similar about those websites that might be causing the issues, such as security settings, proxy settings, etc?  Also, which version of Windows are you running on that system?  If that is the 5000 series of the Inspiron it came with Win98 most likely.  Is that what you're running on it?

If you can give us a bit more information on which sites you're not able to connect to, which Windows you're running, whether you're connecting via a router, modem, wireless, etc., we can try and give you some further ideas on what to check.

Hi,

Are you receiving any error messages when attempting those websites?   There are a lot of reasons that can cause problems with certain websites, whether it's security settings, cookies being disabled, sites being blocked by firewalls or company policies, etc.  Are you getting a message that the websites are not responding or maybe timing out?

The websites you can't access, do their addresses start with http: or https: ?  The "s" indicates its a "secure" site where you would need to log into it to access the pages.

One thing I would suggest trying is to delete all your cookies and then try to access those sites again.  If that doesn't work, try accessing them using a different browser, such as Chrome or Firefox.

Lastly, try to reset Internet Explorer to it's default settings:

To reset Internet Explorer settings
  1. Close all Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
  2. Reopen Internet Explorer.
  3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet options.
  4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset. ...
  5. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.

Let me know if any of this helps.
