Problems with CD/DVD driver

Question

I got a problem with the CD/DVD burner at my Laptop Inspiron 6400, which doesn't play movies or music properly anymore, it keeps skipping songs, or I can hear laud cracks while listening the music as well as the DVD picture isn't smooth anymore. This is a recent problem because when I first got this laptop it worked perfectly. I tried different audio programs...like iTunes, Windows media player. These program are working well only while playing already downloaded songs. Music from CD skips or plays with noise. (cracks) I tried downloading the drivers for video and audio both that hasn't seemed to work. Do you have any suggestions what could be wrong and how to fix this problem??? Is this a problem with the CD/DVD driver, do I need to replace it??? or the audio driver? Thanks a lot!!! lukas

check in device manager to ensure that your optical drive has not slipped into pio mode.

UPGRADE YOUR DRIVES FIRMWARE!   That's the only way

hi i have the same problem with my laptop, same model. could you tell me how to check the device manager? im not sure how to go through that process. thanks for your help.
