Problems with Dell XPS 13 ultrabook
Anyone having multiple problems with XPS 13 Ultrabook?
1. replace defective battery....
2.repair touchPad...
3. restore operating system...had to get Window 7 OS from Dell...lost all info...
Now....line on monitor...under glasses...when viewed from ANY angle...
I have spent HOURS speaking with phone support....in India...this is supposed to be XPS Premium support....keep getting transferred from one to another....
then support is awful...WHY did I pay for it???
I would like to hear if anyone else is having this experience.
Thanks,
Don R.

Weird. I have not experienced the problem you are speaking of and I am a very heavy user. I rarely even shut the ultrabook down.
Best of luck though!

I wanted to step in for those of you still having problems with the touchpad on the XPS 13. You have probably already tried the latest Cypress touchpad but if not, and you are still having problems with the touchpad, it may help. Version A02 2.3.6.34 of the driver may be downloaded from the following link.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=8W575&FileId=2960882150&productCode=xps-13-l321x&urlProductCode=False
If you continue to have problems even with the fixes mentioned in this thread and with the new driver please feel free to shoot me a private message. Just click on the link in my signature and in the message please include your name and service tag, and I will be happy to research service options.

Although the new driver is a HUGE improvement over the earlier versions, there are still issues. it's very imprecise. more often than not if I try to double tap, i only succeed in moving the mouse pointer of dragging an item on top of another. I still have occasional issues with just placing the pointer over an action button (like the X in the corner of an app) and it will select it with no input from me. the current driver is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough depending on what you are doing with it.
I'm learning to live with the issues but I an eagerly awaiting a new, more refined driver.

I'm glad that helped you, but "tap to click" is just about the single most used and useful feature/innovation of any touchpad ever produced. I don't think disabling that is of benefit. Dell needs to fix the "tap to click" functionality.

Yep, jumping cursor and loss of "focus" since I got the darn thing in April. No solution so far. Apple is def on the horizon for this law firm.

I have an XPS 13 (Core 1.7). Does anyone know why I am getting only a 20MB download speed from a fibre optic wireless broadband service that offers 50MB. I have just run the same internet speed test on my wife's Sony VAIO (Core 1.3) and it registers 49MB.

I presume you mean an Intel i7 and Intel i3 processors.
For download speeds the processor does not matter. What matters is the the network card. Run your Dell Support Center and click on System Info and scroll to Communications. This will tell you the network card you have. It will also tell you the speed. My XPS 15 L502X has the Intel WIFI Link 1000 BGN. It runs at 54Mbps most of the time. Sometimes it will drop to 36Mbps for no obvious reason. It is a radio link to your Internet Router unless you are wired direct. If you are wired, You will use a different Network card - the Dell System Info will alert you to which is in use (one not in use will be "0" speed). Your Gateway (Network Router) will also determine your connection speed capability.
You can also go to Control Panel - Network and Internet - select Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools - Diagnostics - View Statistics - Advanced Statistics - Transmitt/Receive - scroll to Directed Packets. This tells you the various speeds at which data is Transmitted or Received (downloads). You will see the speed varies. Being a radio connection, much depends on interference, antenna position(s), proximity to the wireless router or gateway to the Internet. There are other diagnostic tools to help you find any problem that may exist.
If you have not done so, you should run the Dell Support PC Check Up. This will reveal much.

Terry, thank you very much! Your advice works.
Before installing the new driver, I had to touch the metal parts of the ultrabook's body to reduce the distortions on the touchpad - it was the only solution.
Now it's OK, and I'm very happy with my XPS 13.

Oh yes! And, to make matters more annoying, Dell pretend to be completely surprised, like they've never heard of it before. The touchpad has a mind of its own and the cursor disappears several times while I am typing each sentence.
I think the only option is to send it back.

Terry
I'm not trying, but I want to make sure I understand. I spend over $2,000 on a notebook and then I'm supposed to fix it. Is that correct?
It never said that in on the website when I bought it. Did I miss something in the small print?
Also, with all the comments on this notice board, why do tech support pretend it's the first time they've ever heard of touchpad problems with the XPS13?
Dell has sold me an unusable product.

Have you tried disabling tap to click? I am betting your palms are tapping the touchpad when you type causing the cursor to jump around. This was the problem for me. Turned it off and no problems since.

I just spent 1.5 hours on the phone and after having to pay $89.00 They were able to fix it.My computer is only three month old. I am not a happy camper. What they did was reinstall my touchpad drivers. It did correct the problem. But in my opinion it was a rip off. I was having the sam issue that you are having.
