Processor/CPU speed drastically decreased?
I didn't know how it could have happened.
I first noticed that my Inspiron 6000 was running slowly (more so than usual), and so I've decided to format my computer to make a fresh start. To my horror, it still ran slowly afterwards, and that was when I noticed that my processor speed has completely changed. It now (and continues to despite shut down/reboots) reads 108Mhz as the CPU speed. It used to be much, much higher at 1.70GHz.
As it currently reads from the My Computer properties:
Intel (R) Pentium (R) M
processor 1.70GHz
108 Mhz, 0.99GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension
Any help as to why this is happening and any remedies would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
PS: Currently running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. Laptop is approximately 5 years old.

Run the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup). Chances are you've a damaged mainboard.

I've ran the Dell diagnostics test under thorough mode, and I was able to pass every test.
The diagnostics did not find anything wrong. So the test was unable to find out the cause of my predicament...
