Processor speed inspiron 8000

Question

1. My Inspiron 8000 processor speed all of a sudden dropped from 700 mhz (what it should be) to 550 mhz. All functions work as they should near as I can see on the machine. The machine has XP pro, 256mb, 10gb.

2. Is the hard drive upgradeable to greater than 10gb?

Thanks for the reply, The speed is 550 mhz on AC and battery. Any ideas?

It that on battery, or on AC power (it should run slower on battery)? You can install any current hard drive you'd like and it'll run fine.

Try going into Control Panel-Power Options and select Always On and see if the speed changes.

Look at the SpeedStep setting in the BIOS - and with the 8000 you have to reboot to get a cpu speed change.
