Proper Driver for Express Mini Card for XPS1210

I've had my XPS for several years, but had never used the Mini Card for Cellular Internet.  So I had acquired a card and now cannot seem to find the proper driver.  I believe I have the right card, but not driver.

The card says on it Merlin XU 870, model nrm xu870

I found this driver on Dell Site:

Title      : Communications:Dell Wireless 5500 Cingular Mobile Broadband 3G HSDPA MiniCard, Wireless 5510 Cingular Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) Express card, Wireless 5520 Cingular Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) MiniCard Utility
Version    : A05
OEM Name   : Dell
OEM Ver    : 2.06.03.052
Computers  : MXC051; Inspiron:1420, 1501, 1520, 1521, 1525, 1526, 1720, 1721, ME051, MM061, MP061, MXC061; Latitude:110L, 120L , 131L, ATG D630, D410, D420, D430, D520, D530, D531, D610, D620, D630, D630c, D631, D810, D820, D830, E4300, XFR D630, XT; Precision:M4300, M6300, M65, M90; Vostro Notebook:1000, 1011, 1400, 1500, 1700, Dell 500; XPS Notebook:M1330, M1530, M1730, MXC062, MXG061, MXP061
OS         : Windows 2000, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows XP, Windows XP x64

However, XPS M1210 is not on this list and when I try to install the above driver/software, the install doesn't complete, as it says "hardware not found", even though the device is in and light is blue.  When I plug the device in "new hardware" window pops up and Windows wants to go look for a driver, but it doesn't find it, when it goes out to the  internet (currently I have Wifi Internet).

OK, so I've tried everything, but the simple fact is, I still don't have a driver that SAYS it's meant for my specific model XPS M1210..  Then I found this page, which may actually reference the correct driver,  but the links a DEAD!

https://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/xps-m1210

Can someone help me obtain the CORRECT driver to get this thing working? Specifically for XPS M1210, because close (i.e. other XPS models referenced above) isn't cutting it.  I've spent a lot of time on this.  And even spoke to Novatel, the maker of the Merlin Card, but their driver still didn't help, and it seems it is this dell driver that I am lacking.

Thanks for any help!

The link does work:

www.dell.com/.../xps-m1210

Do you have the chipset driver  and Dell notebook system software in place?

You might also want to check with AT&T -- even if you can get the card recognized, AT&T no longer supports most of the old Cingular Wireless hardware on its network.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  The file in this link you provided is a file I already have.  That's the one that when I try to install it, it interrupts and doesn't complete, saying that it can't find the device?  This is the file: DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A05_R216783

ATT offers no support for me in this situation.

Chipset Driver?  How would I check on this?  Could this be the cause of my machine not recognizing the device?

I haven't made any modifications or updates to the Chipset Driver, so whatever is there is what XP came with.  Please advise.

I can't believe this has become such as issue.  I've even tried two different cards and they both turn blue and are recognized as new hardware, when I insert them, but then Windows wants to look for a driver and that's as far as I get.

Thanks!

Do I have the right file, that you were referring me to, or was there something else at that link that I was suppose to download?

That link is for the chipset driver.  If installing that and then installing the software for the card doesn't work, there is something wrong with the card itself.

However, XPS M1210 is not on the list of computers that are displayed when the file is activated for installation.  If you click on that file as if you are going to install the software, you will see a list of computers that are covered.  You can cancel out before the software installs.

So should we assume that Dell just "forgot" to mention M1210, while it Did mention other XPS Laptops?  Or, is there another file that Does mention XPSM1210 and therefore would have some chance of actually working?

I've got two different Express Cards, I would think one of them or both of them Are in working condition,  yet I haven't found a file or driver that lets the computer know what the card is.

How can we find what is Specifically for the XPSM1210?

Thanks for any light you are able to shed on this!

Hi, I posted a response below.  Can you comment?  Thanks.

If the problem is not the card(s), can you suggest any other avenue I could pursue.  Pls see below.
