Another alternative, is to download SP2 (and SP3), and burn it (/them) to CD.

Thank u very much for both your replies. I was using the Media centre CD to reload XP and it still gave me "pls install service pack 2"
Went back to Dell and after more tests it seems hard drive needs replacing.
Is it commonplace for a hard drive on one of these to die after 18 months?
