Replacing HDD with SSD question
I have a XPS L501X laptop that I want to upgrade with an Intel 320 series SSD (120 GB), and I was wondering what the best procedure would be for this.
I'd like to be able to use a clean version of Windows 7 (like the condition I got it in from the factory) on the SSD, and swap out my DVD drive with the old HDD (using a caddy from NewModeUS) which I would wipe out and use for data storage. Could I use the Recovery CD I have (made from Dell DataSafe Local Backup) to get the SSD running, or does it only work on repairing the previous version on the HDD? If that's the case, I'd probably end up having to copy my current drive to the SSD to get it running, but then I run into the problem of having my current HDD in dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu, so I'm not sure how it would behave with data migration software, or if anyone has any experience with that. I don't really care too much about losing Linux, but I'd like Windows 7 running.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. I also apologize if this is in the wrong forum, this is my first time posting here.
