Restore WIM File (XP System)
Hi:
I have a Vostro 1320 comes with XP (I think I downgraded from Vista).
1. In the past, I have used the "Dell Backup and Recovery Manager" to make backup files.
2. Then, I extracted the backup file (WIM files) and store them on DVD.
3. Today, I want to restore the WIM files, but I cannot find the restore button in the "Dell Backup and Recovery Manager".
4. I must have deleted the backup file in the hard disk.
My question is, how can I restore the image file?

You can't do this anymore because the Dell Datasafe recovery partition is an encrypted NTFS partition.
Unless you backed up to a 16 gig or larger USB flash drive using the Dell Datasafe utility you will not be able to get the recovery partition back.
Microsoft got mad at Dell for putting the factory.wim files on an unencrypted partition that could be cloned.

The WIM file will be of Vista - not XP. You'll need a bootable Vista DVD -- the instructions for using the WIM file without the restore menu are these:
smsoftdev-solutions.blogspot.com/.../how-to-restore-dell-factory-image-when.html
XP may still be loaded when you to the restore, but a WIM file is for Vista or 7.

Hi:
I had tried to restore/recover the Wim file before with success in the past, using the image file that reside in the hidden partition. The problem now is I had extracted the WIM file and burned onto a DVD, thinking that I do not need those in the hidden partition, I deleted it. Any more suggestions?
