Sata Controller help!!!

Sorry for the double post, I didn't know where to put this question!

Ok my Bios for my inspiron 1721 won't find my hard drive. The hard drive works just fine. So does that mean it is the SATA Controller that isn't working? If so, what are the solutions for that? I know the hard drive is installed correctly and working in slot 1 by using a hard drive tester after I hooked the HD into another machine. I tried to install the SATA drivers using a usb jump drive during VISTA installation, but that didn't help it find the drive. Anyone else having this problem?

I read elsewhere something about a blade connector in the back of the HD.  Is that just the SATA adaptor that goes on the HD before it is placed in the laptop?

the blade adapter is for pata drives.

I can only postulate that the connection between the hdd and motherboard is somehow faulty.

suggest you contact dell support to get it sorted under warranty.

Would the self diagnostic tool detect that the sata controller is bad?  The only error I get is that it can't find the hard drive...

I don't think the state of the sata controller is actually tested in diagnostics.
